In our Boynton Beach practice, Doctor Light and our team often see patients afflicted with persistent problems of a runny or drippy nose. It is uncomfortable and annoying, to say the least. The medical term for this condition is known as chronic rhinitis, and it can result in the following symptoms:

  • Runny nose
  • Congested nose
  • Nasal itching
  • Sneezing

Some people notice that their nose runs when they eat, or in cold air. This condition may be caused by allergic factors like ‘hay fever’. Other cases are caused by factors not related to allergies, but some people have both allergic and non-allergic chronic rhinitis, called mixed rhinitis, at the same time.

Post-Nasal Drip

Post-nasal drip, in which nasal secretions drip down the back of the throat, is common in people who have chronic rhinitis. Post-nasal drip can cause a sore throat and a cough. People with post-nasal drip related to chronic rhinitis may think they have a cold, but the actual cause is not viral at all.

Treatments

Standard Treatments for Runny, Drippy Nose

Standard ENT doctor treatment for chronic rhinitis includes oral medication, nasal sprays and irrigation of the nasal passages. Medications can have unpleasant side effects. They may not be effective for everyone. In fact, about 10 percent of all chronic rhinitis patients are resistant to their prescribed medical therapy. Some patients may have other medical conditions that prevent them from being able to take medications for rhinitis. Surgery is sometimes performed, but this is typically only as a last resort.

The ClariFix Procedure

ClariFix has been hailed as a new, effective, non-invasive way to treat chronic rhinitis. Previous standard treatments have been unsatisfactory for many patients.

ClariFix is non-invasive. It uses cryotherapy, the application of extreme cold, to address the problem at its root cause. ClariFix is a device with a small probe that targets an area at the back of the nose, freezing this inflamed area to relieve symptoms.

The ClariFix procedure has been proven to provide long-lasting, effective relief from chronic rhinitis symptoms.

The procedure is:

  • Safe
  • Comfortable for the patient. ( The nose is made numb )
  • Performed in our office
  • Quick
  • Highly effective

The ClariFix procedure is quick. It takes only a few minutes to complete. Most patients report that it is painless. Patients can return to their normal activities the next day. A temporary headache may occur, which generally lasts about 30 minutes or so after the procedure. Patients may be instructed to irrigate their nasal passages. Some patients may require additional treatments for optimal results.
