If you are like many people all over the world, allergies have become an integral part of your life. Maybe you are really struggling with your particular allergy or its symptoms.
But you do not have to endure the discomfort of an allergy anymore. Help is available. A Light E.N.T. can help you to discover what your allergies are, and test them to determine the best treatment option that is right for you.
Allergy Symptoms
Allergies can cause a variety of symptoms—and can even depend on the type of allergy. Allergies can range from pollen and mold to various foods and other products. Interestingly, some allergies may not cause any symptoms at all!
Some possible symptoms may include:
- Skin rash
- Vomiting
- Coughing
- Dizziness
- Shortness of breath
- Inflamed tongue
- Issues with swallowing
- Hoarseness
- Wheezing
- Inability to speak
- Anaphylaxis (serious impaired breathing and possibly shock)
Some allergies can result in serious symptoms that require immediate medical attention. Do not risk your health! Some common foods that cause an allergic reaction include:
- Milk
- Eggs
- Shellfish
- Vegetable or fruit pollen
- Peanuts
For some people, symptoms or a reaction can occur within minutes. In rare cases, allergic reactions may be delayed.
What tests are used to determine if you have allergies?
Good question! A Light E.N.T. will conduct a skin test to find out the severity of your allergies and the solution to a better quality of life for you. The procedure is pain free. The liquid seeps under the skin and within 20 minutes, the test will be positive if a noticeable bump, like a mosquito bite, is present at the site where the allergen was positioned. Easy, is it not?
There is a small chance that you test positive, or allergic, to a certain allergen. This can even be the case if you show no symptoms of having an allergy. If this is the case, a Light E.N.T. may ask you to do a follow-up, or challenge, test.
In some cases, doctors will conduct a blood test. However, it is not as accurate as the skin test. It may take a week or more for you to get the results of the blood test.
